Take some time to reset with sound

October 5, 2022

What kinds of sounds are you surrounded by in general over the course of a day? Of the week? Are they soothing, jarring, loud, soft? Are they usually people’s voices, mechanical, musical, man-made, or sounds from nature? Are there distinct sounds where you work, and if so, how do they make you feel? Can you control what you listen to, and if so, what do you choose?

Our auditory experience has a lot of influence on how we feel. Sound carries vibration, and that can affect us at a cellular level. If the sounds around us are harsh and grating, it can affect our nervous system; if we are more often surrounded by nature and softer, gentler sounds, it promotes a state of relaxation. Take a moment to think about how what you hear on a daily basis, and if there are any shifts you’d like to make to reduce the amount of sounds that disturb you and increase bringing in more of what you’d like to hear. In yogic philosophy, while on one hand we practice detachment and exercise control of our responses to external stimuli, we also recognize that all that we consume, not just in food but in thoughts, ideas, and sounds, can influence us.

A healing sound bath can help to shift our state of mind deeper by using rhythm and frequency to attune the brain waves through states of consciousness (from awake and alert presence into progressively deeper meditative states). As we surrender from beta and into theta and delta waves, we cultivate creativity, emotional connection, intuition, and relaxation; we reinforce our immune system and promote natural healing and deep restoration.

Join us for a healing sound bath on Saturday, October 8th, as the full moon rises. Let the calming and soothing vibrations gently reset and release any ama, or stagnant energy, held in the body, and invite in a feeling of renewal.
