Sound Vibration Massage: A Modality to Align the Body and Spirit

April 14, 2023

Recently when I was in Nepal, I added a new tool to my kit when I enrolled in an advanced sound healing certification: Sound Vibration Massage.

What is a Sound Vibration Massage?

Nada Yoga is the yoga of sound; using sound vibrations to heal the mind and body and bring it into a state of equilibrium. A vibrational sound massage incorporates the use of healing sound bowls both played in close vicinity to and directly on the body. Working along energy lines, chakra energy centers, and with acupressure points, the sound massage practitioner will use different sizes and styles of bowls on the body, playing them in a manner to elicit vibrations that are felt in your muscles, nerves, and deep into your bones. Tuning forks can be used in problematic areas or to target specific conditions, aches and pains, or energetic blockages. Bells, tingsha (chimes), and other gentle instruments can be brought in to enhance the auditory experience and help you relax into a meditative, and even trance-like state during your session.

What are benefits of a Sound Vibration Massage?

Sound vibration at specific frequencies helps to release energy blockages within the body. It helps to retune your body, mind, and spirit, and promote wellness throughout the physical, emotional, mental, and energetic layers of the body. On the physical level, it stimulates and awakens the nervous system, relieves tension in the muscles, and improves circulation. This modality can help to release stress, depression, anxiety, and reduce mood swings.

Who should get one?

Most people can get a vibrational sound massage, although it is not recommended for those who have a pacemaker.

This is a wonderful therapy for you if…

  • you experience any kind of stress or anxiety, negative or depressive feelings, intrusive thoughts

  • you are feeling out of alignment with your highest calling

  • you are feeling a lack of connection with yourself or others

  • you feel tension in the physical body, or notice blockages in your energetic body

  • you need help getting into a truly relaxed state of being

  • you are seeking to improve your focus, creativity

  • you have problems with insomnia

My own reflections after my first Sound Vibration Massage

When I was learning the modality, I got to experience it on a physical level, but afterwards I made an appointment with the instructor so I could truly understand how this will feel to clients I work with. Afterwards I felt like I was floating through life, and took a few moments to jot down a stream of consciousness so that I could share with you the impact this had on my mind and body.

Completely charged up, in tune.
Both focused and in another plane at the same time.
Hyper aware. Bliss. Connected.
Aligned throughout body from head to toe.
Awakened and relaxed at the same time.
Gentle smile falls naturally on my face.
Soft. Recharged.
Like all the cells in my body have been touched and put back into place.
In love with the world.
Like I could go into meditation really easily from here.
Floating. Compassionate. Connected.
Easily in flow.
Connection between inner and outer world.
Like all my cells are vibrating with life.
Energy channels cleared.
Receptive.
